Men’s Basketball Falls to Fairmont State Ending FSU Season
On Saturday, Feb. 29, the Frostburg Bobcats men’s basketball team played away against the Fairmont State Falcons.
The Bobcats came in after Wednesday’s home game against Davis & Elkins Senators, losing 75-77. The Fairmont State Falcons came in after winning against West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Bobcats were looking to win against the Falcons, while also hoping for an Urbana lost so they could be eligible for the conference tournament.
Early in the first half, the Bobcats and Falcons were constantly going back and forth on the leader board. The Bobcats were fierce competitors and did not show fear against the Falcons. Late in the first half, the Falcons used a 14-2 run giving them an 11-point lead. Fairmont played strong defense and was able to keep the Bobcats shooting at only 41% on the field and 27% at the three. As a result, The Falcons were able to hold a 46-35 lead going into the half.
In the second half, the Bobcats came back fresh and played good defense and making the gap mere single digits, 44-48. However, the Falcons defense and scoring was too much to overcome. In the second half, FSU scored 46 points and made 49% of their shots, but Fairmont State scored 57 with 50% scoring and 42% at the three.
Though both teams achieved high scores, Frostburg fell 81-103, losing by 22 points. Senior Demetrich Williams ended the night with a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Given the loss, the Bobcats did not succeed in making it into the MEC Conference Tournament, and ended the season 10-18, 7-15 in the MEC.
