Men’s Track and Field Take Third at CAC Championships, Women Finish Seventh

FSU’s men’s track and field team finished third as the CAC Outdoor Championships concluded Saturday, May 4 at Christopher Newport. Mary Washington took home the gold, and Salisbury captured second place.

The Bobcats are ranked fifth in the Mideast region with 121 points. Frostburg wrapped up the meet with 22 top-10 finishes and 10 top-5 efforts. The team also earned four All-CAC medals and two first place finishes.

Senior Robbie Romano took home the CAC title in the 1,500 meter run, finishing with a season best of 3:54. The performance earned him a First Team All-CAC Medal and a fifth place ranking in the Mideast region. He also finished seventh in the 5,000 meter run.

Junior Dajon Wiseman ran to a first place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99. Wiseman took home FirstTeam All-CAC honors and the 13th fastest time in the Mideast for the event. Senior Shamar Nelson finished fifth, and sophomore Clayton Washington took eighth.

First-year Ratez McLaurin, Wiseman, Nelson, and Washington finished second in the 4×100 relay. The finish earned them Second Team All-CAC honors.

McLaurin took fifth in the long jump. Washington was fifth in the 400-meter dash.

Junior James Naill captured Second Team All-CAC honors with a second place finish in the javelin. Senior Bradley Forster finished fifth.

Junior Michael Belcher finished third in the discus. Senior Matthew Robinson took home third and sixth in the 400-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles, respectively.

The 4×400 meter relay team comprised of Romano, Washington, first-year Tyriek Charles, and junior Jacob Rickards finished fifth.

Rounding out the Bobcats top-10 finishes were Rickards’ eighth place finish in the 800-meter dash, Charles’ 10th place finish in the 400-meter dash, and first-year Justin Dunklin’s seventh place finishes in the high jump and long jump.

Junior Kierstin Tawney captured the hammer throw title, and teammate Keileen Estrada finished first in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Bobcat women’s track and field team to a seventh place finish at the CAC Outdoor Championships held at Christopher Newport University.

Mary Washington went home as champions, followed by Salisbury University as the runner-ups. Frostburg finished with 45 points.

With her first-place throw, Tawney earned First Team All-CAC honors and broke her own school record.

Senior Holly Van Wie finished third in the hammer throw and 14th in the shot put.

First-year Amy Trembly propelled her way to a ninth place finish in the pole vault. She also took home third in the high jump.

The track and field team will be back competing May 13-14 at Cortland State for the AARTFC Championships.
