Netflix has done it again with another amazing show. Despite its name, Everything Sucks! absolutely does not suck. Things take place in 1996 when V.H.S. tapes were used constantly and kids had to use pay phones to call their dads beeper to come pick them up. The show follows the lives of incoming freshmen Luke, McQuaid, and Tyler during their first week at Boring High School in Boring, Oregon.  They decide to join the A.V. Club to find their people where they quickly meet and befriend Kate Messner, Principal’s daughter. Soon, the A.V. Club and Drama Club crash together in an odd turn of events and things get real.

The 90’s vibe mixed with the awkwardness of high school makes this the perfect nostalgia show. Anyone can relate to the situations that Luke, Kate, or the others find themselves in. One of the more important storylines to the show is that of Kate and her sexual awakening. Kate begins to question her sexuality and goes about trying to find herself. Her storyline is relatable to some members of the LGBTQ community, whether they grew up in 1996 or now. Another big storyline in the show surrounds Luke and his absent father. Luke begins to want to know more about his father, who left when he was very young. Many people can understand Luke’s desires as they watch him struggle through wanting to know a man who left.

Netflix has canceled Everything Sucks!, but there is no reason for the show to be canceled. The show has done amazingly already, and it was only released in February. The show has more to give. There are more storylines that these characters need to face. It’s important that Netflix renews the show. So, watch Everything Sucks! on Netflix, and if you enjoy it and think it’s important, tweet about it. Tweet #RenewEverythingSucks to Netflix and hopefully we can get a season two. The show has so much more. Netflix needs to realize that and #RenewEverythingSucks.
