New Policies, PAWS Pantry and More Discussed at SGA Meeting
This past Thursday, Nov. 7th, Frostburg State’s Student Government Association held their most recent Senate Agenda meeting in the Atkinson room located in the Lane Center. The Bottom Line covered the happenings at this senate meeting. A number of important topics were covered within the meeting including the University’s emergency absence and service animal policy, a plan to create a winter clothing section in PAWS Pantry, news resources for non-traditional students, and funding for the African Student Association, Learn Develop Act Empower (L.E.A.D.), and the National Society of Black Engineers.
Discussion started off in regard to the University’s emergency absence policy. The policy has gone through a number of revisions and is still in the process of being put into action. Next came the idea of instituting a new winter clothing section in PAWS Pantry for those who are in need of winter clothing, as cold exposure can drastically affect someone’s academic performance. New resources are being instituted for the University’s population of non-traditional students as well.
The meeting then went into funding requests for student organizations. The first group to request funding was the African Student Association. The organizations requested a sum of $3,096.00 for its 11th annual pageant show that is to take place on Dec. 7th, which will be open to the student body and the public. Funding in the amount of $2,536.00 was granted.
L.E.A.D. was the next organization to request funding in the amount of $912.30 for their first TACO Bout stress event that will be held on Nov. 21st. Funding in the amount of $867.30 was granted.
The last student organizations to request funding was the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) in order to attend the NSBE Fall Regional Conference in Pittsburgh, PA for the cost of accommodations and tickets. The NSBE requested $800.00 for the event and was granted $883.04.
