New Tomb Raider Game Coming Out This Fall

Square Enix has announced that a new Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is currently in development. After a teaser trailer was revealed on March 15, the game was officially announced on April 27. Although it’s highly unlikely to be the last Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be the final installment of a trio of games that revolve around Lara Croft’s origins, the other two being Rise of the Tomb Raider (released in 2015) and Tomb Raider (released in 2013).

This trilogy of games looks into how Lara Croft became a rugged adventurer by surviving harsh wilderness, and how she came into the field of archeology to ultimately become a tomb raider. Like the previous installments, this new Tomb Raider game will be an action-adventure title that offers a mix of combat, stealth, puzzles, and quick-time events, all tied into a game about exploration. Lara’s next adventure will take her to South America, where she will race against time to prevent a Mayan apocalypse. Meanwhile, it seems that Lara will also be contending with some internal conflicts. While the trials and hardships she has endured in previous games have made her into a resilient tomb raider, the psychological effects they’ve had on her may be coming to light in this new installment.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released on Sept. 14, 2018 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
