Penn State Harrisburg Sweep Bobcats in Final Double Header
The Frostburg State University (FSU) Bobcats baseball team played Penn State of Harrisburg in a double header, and PSH came out on top in both games.
In game one, Penn State Harrisburg scored first in the second inning. FSU answered back, scoring on a junior Mitch Fyffe single and junior Ryan Roell run in to cut Penn State Harrisburg’s lead in half. Penn State scored next in the third inning on two homeruns, resulting in a total of four scores. The Bobcats answered with two homeruns of their own, one by sophomore Tre D’Amico that resulted in him and junior Chris Roosevelt scoring. The second was by Roell and was hit over the center field fence, which once again reduced Penn State’s lead, 6-4.
From there on out, it was all Penn State Harrisburg. The Nittany Lions scored 24 more times before the ninth inning started. The Nittany Lions were having their way. They seemed unstoppable, having multiple people score with each hit. With the game out of reach, the Bobcats scored two more times in the eighth and ninth innings by sophomore Duncan Poler’s hit setting up Fyffe and first-year Worthy Hollister off of a hit by first-year Nick Steury. The final score was 30-6.
All pitchers for the Bobcats were seniors. Dan Ryczek earned two strikeouts and wins, Christian Rivera had four wins, Travis Brashear had five strikeouts and three wins, and Michael Brunvoll had one strikeout and one win. In hitting, Roell had two hits, two runs, and one run batted in, Fyffe two hits, one run, and one run batted in, D’Amico had one hit, two runs, and two runs batted in, and Nick Fuhrman had one hit. In fielding, senior Jason Paredes had 13 putouts, Roosevelt had one putout and four assists, and both D’Amico and Hollister had two putouts.
Unlike game one, which was filled with scoring by Penn State Harrisburg, the Bobcats held them defensively. However, it still wasn’t enough to stop the Nittany Lions from scoring more runs than FSU. The problem offensively for FSU continued, as the Bobcats have not scored more than six in the last six games.
In pitching, junior Franco Velasquez had three strikeouts and two wins and junior Caleb Smith with an earned run average of zero and two strikeouts. The hitting leader for FSU was Fyffe with two hits. In In fielding, sophomore Josh Clegg, D’Amico, and junior Devin Griffith all had five putouts, and Poler had two putouts and assists.
On Sunday, April 28 at home, the Bobcats will have another chance to beat Penn State Harrisburg and finish this three game series off strong.
