Recent Arrest on Campus
On Monday March 25, 2024, Anthony Ibarra was arrested in Dunkle Hall during a morning class on the top floor. The 19-year-old has been charged with four different counts in relation to an incident that took place December 3, 2023. He has been at Frostburg State University on the men’s soccer team. The midfield player from Damascus appears on the 2022 roster as a freshman, and the 2023 roster as a sophomore. Ibarra is being charged with rape in the second degree, unlawfully committing a sexual offense in the third degree, unlawfully committing a sexual offense in the fourth degree, and second-degree assault. Count one has a charge class that if found guilty carries up to a 20-year sentence and is a felony. Charge two would also be classified as a felony and carry a one-year sentence-up to a three-year sentence with $1,000 fine. Charge three would be classified as a misdemeanor with a one-year sentence and $1,000. Charge four has a misdemeanor class up to a ten-year sentence and $2,500. A bench warrant, which is issued as a result of breaking probation or failing to appear in court, was filed March 21st. As of March 26th, 2024, he was held without bail, and he requested for a speedy trial on April 8th. On April 9th, he had an initial appearing. Soon after on the 11th a request to have continue his case remotely was submitted and granted. A request for a bill of particulars was granted on April 24, 2024, which means a written claim will be filed regarding the initial incident in detail. Anthony Ibarra’s trial has been set for September 18 and September 19, 2024. As this deals with Frostburg students, a statement should be sent campus wide to provide clarity and full discretion.
