Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman
2020 has truly been a year to remember, and not in a good way. One of the latest tragedies occurred on August 28th, as Actor Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer at age 43. He has been battling this cancer since 2016. During this battle, he starred in seven films. Looking back at Boseman’s legacy, he impacted black culture in various ways. From his big start in “42” starring as Jackie Robinson, all the way up to his awesome performance in “Black Panther,” Boseman brought a series of African American heroes to life. In all of these films, anyone can see the passion and the effort that he put into his craft, giving the world a look into black history while entertaining and educating them. In “Marshall” Boseman starred as the famous lawyer Thurgood Marshall, in which Boseman depicted one of Marshall’s greatest challenges when working as a lawyer for the NAACP. In a sense, Boseman playing Thurgood Marshall gave young viewers who do not know any of Marshall’s history another hero to look at. He played a role model to show young black men that they can be more than just an athlete or whatever society tells them that they must be. Boseman was also a pioneer in the Black Lives Matter movement and was one of 300 celebrities who signed a letter that demanded Hollywood Companies hire more African American personnel for all positions. Boseman will always be remembered for his efforts to represent historical black figures, and the energy he would bring that would affect people from all around the world.
