Results of Second Round of Universal Testing Announced
Results for the second round of universal testing at FSU were released this afternoon, on September 29. Universal testing was conducted on campus as part of a mandate by the University System of Maryland. The testing was carried out from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23.
In an email from FSU News, out of 3,300 tests conducted over the three-day testing period, 18 tests returned with a positive result. This accounts for 0.55% of the total tests conducted last week. 3,282 tests, or 99.45%, came back with a negative result.
Tests were conducted via a self-administered nasal swab. Registered nurses supervised each test conducted.
As discussed in the email, the results do not account for those who indicated following initial testing that they had no plans to be on campus or opted to work/study remotely following the first round of universal testing, who tested positive for COVID-19 between July 1 and September 21, who are employed or or studying through UMCES Appalachian Laboratory or University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. Additionally, these results do not account for those individuals who were granted exemptions from universal testing for reasons including approved leave, student teaching, and conflicts with scheduling, among others.
A comprehensive look at the test results was released just eight days after the first day of testing began, but many students reported they were able to view their test results as early as Saturday afternoon.
