Roell Breaks FSU Home Run Record
The Bobcats baseball team concluded their 2018-19 campaign with a doubleheader split with Southern Virginia finishing 13-20-1 overall and 3-17-1 in CAC action.
Junior Ryan Roell hit his 15th homer of the season in the first inning of game one to now sit atop FSU’s single-season home run list. Former Bobcat Matt Greene held the record for nine seasons, hitting 14 home runs back in 2010. Roell is now tied at 10th with the most home runs all time in Bobcat history and is second in home runs in the CAC.
In game one, the sophomore pairings of Josh Clegg and Tre D’Amico singled to get on base for Roell’s record-breaking home run to start the Bobcat’s offense with a 3-0 lead. Senior Jason Paredes then scored for a 4-0 lead before Southern Virginia had a chance to bat.
Southern Virginia rallied in the third inning with three runs, but the Bobcats answered with junior Chris Roosevelt’s run off a single to take the lead 5-3. The Knights scored six runs in the in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead 9-5 and two more runs in the seventh before D’Amico scored a single home run in the eighth to make the score 12-6. Southern Virginia scored two more in the eighth to take the win 14-6.
Roell led the Bobcats with three RBI’s. All but one of the starters got a hit.
Clegg opened the scoring for the Bobcats in game two off a Roell single. The Knights tied the game at one before the Bobcats blew it open to take a 6-1 lead in the second inning. The Knights rallied in the eighth to cut Frostburg’s lead to one.
Roell ended going 3-for-4, and Parades went 1-for-2 with a solo home run.
