Roell Scores Lone Run as Frostburg falls to Mary Washington
The Frostburg State University Bobcats (FSU) lost to the Mary Washington Eagles 17-1 on Wednesday, April 17. This game makes Frostburg’s record 11-14-1 and Mary Washington’s record 10-16. This was a series postponed in early April and finished with Mary Washington completing the sweep.
Mary Washinton came out hot, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Bobcats answered immediately with a home run from the junior Ryan Roell. The next inning, the Mary Washington eagles scored another run. The Bobcats were ready to answer back with two scores, but Bret Fogle’s hit was caught forcing the two runners to stay put. The Mary Washington Eagles led by seven in the sixth inning after a home run to right center field. Mary Washington continued to score, having three runs in the ninth inning to end the game 17-1. Roell tied Nicholas Baham of Christopher Newport for the CAC lead in home runs when he scored FSU’s only point. Roell now has eleven on the season.
Pitching in that game for FSU were Devin Griffith, Dan Ryczek, Franco Velasquez, and Christian Rivera. Griffith had one strikeout and two wins, Ryczek had an earned run average of three and one win, Velasquez had three strikeouts and three wins, and Rivera had an earned run average of one, with one strikeout. The batting leaders were Roell, Jason Paredes, and Chris Roosevelt. Roell had one hit, one run, and one run batted in, Paredes had one hit, and Roosevelt had one hit. The fielding leaders of the game were Griffith, Quin Ambeault, Mitch Fyffe, and Fogle. Griffith had eight putouts and one assist, Ambeault had seven putouts, Fyffe had four putouts, and Fogle had three assists.
The Bobcats next game will be on Monday, April 22 at FSU where they will take on the York Spartans.
