Several 2018 Games Announced on March 8th
Some major video game releases of 2018 have recently been teased on the internet. Specifically, on March 8, the following games were announced: “Super Smash Brothers” for the Nintendo Switch, “Crash Bandicoot N. San Trilogy” for all consoles, and a sequel to Tom Clancy’s “The Division.”
An official trailer for the new “Super Smash Brothers” game was uploaded on Nintendo’s official Youtube channel, which begins by showing two Inklings from Splatoon, a shooter that is one of Nintendo’s latest and most successful titles, engaging in combat. Halfway through the trailer, the lights fade and one of the Inklings turns around to witness a flaming object, which is in the shape of the unmistakable “Super Smash Bros.” logo. The trailer then zooms in on silhouettes of veteran characters of the series, such as Mario and Link. The trailer does not show many other details aside from the focus on the Inklings, so it is not known whether this title will be a port with extra polish (similar to “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe”) or a new game entirely. Additionally, no exact release date was mentioned, only that it is planned to be released sometime this year. Nonetheless, Smash fans can expect more details to be unveiled in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the official Youtube channel for “Crash Bandicoot” has uploaded a trailer called Wumpa for Everyone, which shows gameplay of the “N. Sane Trilogy” along with logos of all the consoles it will be available for: Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and even PC via Steam. The “N. Sane Trilogy,” which is a collection of the first three “Crash Bandicoot” games remastered, was originally released on June 30, 2017 as a Playstation 4 exclusive. Any fans of Crash who don’t have a PS4 will be happy to hear that the game that will hopefully spark the Bandicoot’s comeback will now be available to all modern console gamers.
Lastly, a sequel for Tom Clancy’s “The Division” was announced. “The Division” is a third person shooter, role-playing game, and a major-multiplayer online title that was originally released for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 8, 2016. Essentially, it is a loot-based shooter game, comparable to Bungie’s “Destiny” franchise. In “The Division,” players assume the role of an agent working for the Strategic Homeland Division. The player is tasked with securing multiple points in New York City, which has become a wasteland due to a pandemic of the “Dollar Flu.”
With all these titles announced, it seems like it’s going to be a good year for gaming.
