SGA Discusses Homecoming, Provides Funds for Student Organizations at Second Meeting
On Thursday, Sept. 19th, the Student Government Association of Frostburg State University held its second general body meeting of the fall semester of the 2019-20 academic year. The meeting was held in the Atkinson Room in the Lane University Center and began at 6:30 p.m.
The executive council opened the meeting with remarks from President Jenna Puffinburger. Amongst the discussed topics were the Soar to Success Series, a program for student leaders that help them develop their leadership skills, an All-Alumni Reunion, and Frostburg City Police on campus. Updates for Homecoming Weekend, a plaque for the Bobcat Statue, and upcoming presentations about SGA to first-year orientation classes were mentioned as well as the student leader reception on Oct. 9th prior to the Office of Gender Equity’s presentation of the author and speaker Lindsey Ellison.
Noah DeMichele, treasurer, discussed the operating accounts for SGA, SafeRide, Homecoming, executive, reserves, Alternative Break, and event funding, offering updates for each. The Governance Committee, Public Relations Committee, Senate Finance Committee, and the Student Affairs Committees offered updates as well as student representatives from USMSC, MHEC, UPC and Late at Lane
After the executive board updates, SGA passed four student organization funding packets. The funding packets passed include Pep-Rally and Dance police hours for the Homecoming Committee on Oct. 3rd and Oct. 5th respectively, hotel costs for Delta Sigma Pi’s Grand Chapter Congress event, Chartwells Catering for Spectrum’s Fourth Annual Coming Out Day march and banquet, and partial funding for registration costs, airfare, hotel costs, and meals for an upcoming conference for the Wildlife Society. All approved funding was recommended by SGA’s Senate Finance Committee.
The next SGA meeting will be held in the Atkinson Room in the Lane University Center on Oct. 10th starting at 7 p.m.
