Students to be Tested on Campus Free of Charge
In an email Thursday, August 6, President Nowaczyk sent out a link to consent and registration forms for campus-conducted COVID-19 testing that would be no cost to off-campus/commuter students, faculty, and staff.
Students living off-campus and/or commuting from home have three opportunities to be tested: Friday, August 14, Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Faculty and staff will be tested on campus on Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Off-campus/commuter students, faculty, and staff who plan to be tested by the university should complete the consent and registration forms to ensure their testing appointment.
Testing will take place at the Cordts PE Center in the first floor Practice Gymnasium. To be tested, students, faculty, and staff must present either their FSU ID or another form of valid identification.
Students living on-campus will be tested upon arrival on their designated move-in day. As for student-athletes- some of whom have already returned to campus- they will be tested through the Athletic Department. On-campus students and student-athletes do not need to register with the link sent out in Thursday’s email.
During the virtual coffee hour with the President on Tuesday, August 4, President Nowaczyk indicated that students who have already returned to campus had not yet been tested, but would be when large-scale testing began. Questioned about whether a test completed prior to arrival was required for move in, Nowaczyk stated that testing would occur on campus during the week of August 12-16. Additionally, he indicated that the turnaround time for results would be two days, including weekends.
Following the USM’s requirement of testing prior to returning to campus, President Nowaczyk announced to the FSU community that the School of Medicine at the University of Maryland Baltimore would be setting up and conducting large-scale testing for students and employees. In a live event with USM Chancellor Jay Perman and UMB President Bruce Jarrell, The Bottom Line confirmed the turnaround time and testing process.
