The Bobcat Statue Dedication

On Saturday, Oct. 5th, at 12 p.m., the Bobcat Statue was officially dedicated to the campus and Frostburg community. This event took place right before the first-ever DII football homecoming game kicked off ‪at 1 p.m‬.

The dedication of the Bobcat Statue allowed for a number of individuals full of Bobcat Pride to come together as a cohesive unit and officially unveil the statue, welcoming it home and celebrating its first-ever FSU Homecoming Weekend. The statue’s arrival on campus was a triumphant moment for FSU, acknowledging unity and Bobcat pride in a way that’s never been done before.

The Frostburg State Bobcat Statue was made possible by the donations of current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the Frostburg community. The Student Government Association began a crowdfunding campaign back in 2018 in order to raise the $7,000 necessary to bring the statue to FSU. Lots of brainstorming, talks for names, and traditions for the statue have taken place ever since the beginning of this initiative. SGA started this project with the hopes that the statue would increase student morale and campus traditions, as well as positively impact the Frostburg community by bringing Bobcats and their supporters together. So far, graduating students and prospective students alike have taken to gathering around the statue to get their snapshot with the FSU mascot, and it’s been a wild success.

The current President of the SGA, Jenna Puffinburger, expresses immense gratitude in regards to the Bobcat Statue. She gave the opening and closing remarks at the Dedication being that she served as the think tank behind the implementation of the statue itself.

“It’s easy for us to classify ourselves as different from those around us whether its different majors, different backgrounds, different political parties, and we never focus in on the fact that we are all Bobcats and that’s something that we’ll share for the rest of our lives,” Puffinburger said, as her work for Frostburg pride will forever live on through the existence of the Bobcat Statue and all the magic that it will bring to the mountains.

Remarks were also given by President Nowaczyk, Frostburg Mayor Bob Flannigan, and FSU Alum Jason VanSickle.

Special thanks goes to every individual who donated to this project and to all the administrators who allowed for it to happen. Go Bobcats!
