The Piece Project Empowers Student Leaders

The Piece Project is a social organization that is committed to empowering communities through speaking their truths. The Piece Project travels the world to bridge the communities that they deliver to. They encourage open conversations; to speak your story and challenges. The programs are designed through expertise in human development, social psychology, culture creation, and behavioral dynamics in order to address the hard conversations and issues that plague younger generations.

The Piece Project is based on three statistics: “Gen Z (18-22 years old) is the loneliest generation for the first time in history, only 60% of the college students who start a traditional 4-year institution graduate within 6 years, and 89% of business leaders believe that today’s college grads aren’t job-ready.”  The Piece Project believes that these issues are intertwined. They have created a workshop to open up these conversations and are committed to finding a solution. Each program is designed to “create a sense of belonging and connection between peers on campus, inspire a sense of engagement in and ownership of campus community, and foster a sense of empowerment and resilience in students around achieving their goals.” By connecting deeper with our communities, we can foster a more meaningful career, education, and life.

Frostburg State University hosted The Piece Project on campus for student leaders early last week. The workshop guided students on developing their missions and creating space for open conversations on difficult subjects, allowing vulnerability and bringing students closer to one another. The workshop discussed that humans learn, create, and collaborate most efficiently when we are comfortable in our surroundings, both with our fellow colleagues and the environment. The Piece Project delivers programs that create this safety net. The workshop allowed for communication development through open dialogue. The deeper connections made between students during the workshop allows for a better support system for the campus community of Frostburg State University.
