This Week in Frostburg Sports
Men’s Basketball:
The men’s basketball season is underway with a 3-3 record so far. The Bobcats have earned wins against Cheyney (68-64), Penn State Altoona (91-78), and most recently, Bridgewater College (79-74). The next game takes place on Friday, Dec. 7 at Division I Longwood University.
In Saturday’s game against Bridgewater, there were several stat leaders wearing Frostburg colors. Junior Daniel Alexander earned 25 points, junior Lawrence Pettis earned 13 points, senior Edwin Cole earned 12 points, and first-year Torrin Stephens earned 10 points. Three-pointers were scored by Cole, Alexander, Pettis, and first-year Blake Hatcher. Free throws were scored by Alexander (6), Pettis (2), Stephens (2), and junior Jordan Dawson (3).
While Frostburg State students are away on winter break, the Bobcats will be taking on opponents such as Old Dominion, Eastern Mennonite University, Roanoke College and John Carroll University in the Roanoke College Tournament. Capital Athletic Conference opponents include Mary Washington University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Southern Virginia University, Christopher Newport University, Penn State Harrisburg, Salisbury University, and York College.
Women’s Basketball:
The Bobcats are currently at 5-2 for their season. They have earned wins against Lebanon Valley (59-41), the City College of New York (67-44), Mount Aloysius (72-46), Chatham (66-64), and Juniata (56-52).
Most recently, the Bobcats defeated Juniata in the Bobcat Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Points were earned by junior Victoria Diggs, sophomore Kayla Wilson, junior Victoria Yoder, and junior Amanda Emory. Diggs also scored 3 three-pointers for the evening. Free throws were scored by Yoder (5), Diggs (4), first-year Drew Dunathan (2), and senior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla (1). Offensively, Emory (2), Yoder (4), and junior Sydney Stotler (3) were able to rebound the ball; while defensively, rebounds were successful by Emory (8), Stotler (2), Yoder (1), and Wilson (4). The next game will be Monday, Dec. 3 at 6:00pm against Wilson College in Bobcat Arena.
The women are scheduled to play against Mount Aloysius, CAC opponent Mary Washington University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Southern Virginia University, Christopher Newport University, Penn State Harrisburg, Salisbury University, and York College over winter break.
