This Week in Frostburg Sports

Men’s Basketball:

The men’s basketball team traveled to Division II opponent, Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The final score for the Bobcats was 51-64, in favor of Mansfield. Senior Edwin Cole scored 10 points, junior Daniel Alexander scored 8 points, junior Terry Kenner scored 6 points, and junior Jordan Dawson scored 5 points. Free throws were scored by Alexander (2), first-year Jamil Jones (1), Dawson (1), and sophomore Sean Patterson. Cole, Alexander, first-year Torrin Stephens, and first-year Nicholas Johnson all earned an offensive or a defensive rebound, respectively.

On Wednesday, the Bobcats hosted CAC rival Southern Virginia University. The final score of the game was 89-76, in favor of the Bobcats. Junior Lawrence Pettis, Cole, Alexander, Dawson, Kenner, Patterson, and junior Demetrich Williams contributed to putting points on the scoreboard for the Bobcats. Rebounds were earned by Kenner (3 offensive, 7 defensive), Dawson (4 offensive, 1 defensive), Alexander (1 offensive, 2 defensive), and Cole (3 defensive).

On Saturday, the Bobcats hosted another Capital Athletic Conference game as St. Mary’s College of Maryland earned a win 77-84 in Bobcat Arena. The 77 points scored by the Bobcats were earned by first-year Bo Schene, Pettis, Kenner, Cole, Johnson, Stephens, and junior Desmond Lighty. Rebounds were awarded to Cole (3 offensive, 8 defensive), Stephens (2 offensive, 3 defensive), Schene (1 offensive, 3 defensive), and Dawson (1 offensive, 3 defensive). The Bobcats take the court again in their next CAC conference matchup against Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Middletown, Pennsylvania.

Women’s Basketball:

This week, the women’s basketball team defeated conference rival Southern Virginia University 72-67 in Bobcat Arena. Points were scored by senior Megan Kelly, junior Victoria Yoder, junior Victoria Diggs, junior Amanda Emory, and sophomore Kayla Wilson. More specifically, three pointers were scored by Kelly, Diggs, Emory, and first-year Drew Dunathan. Diggs (4), Emory (3), and Yoder (2) all scored free throws. Yoder (5), Diggs (2), and Dunathan (2) all earned offensive rebounds, while Yoder (2), Diggs (5), Emory (6), and Dunathan (3) earned defensive rebounds.

The women earned their second CAC win of the week against St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Saturday, February 2, with a score of 79-49. Points were scored by Diggs, Emory, Wilson, and sophomore Jada Holland, with three pointers by Diggs (4) and Kelly (2). Free throws were scored by Emory (5), sophomore Grace Butera (3), senior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla (2), and Kelly (2). Yoder (1), Diggs (3), and Emory (2) earned offensive rebounds, while defensive rebounds were earned by Yoder (5), Diggs (2), Emory (3), and Dunathan (4). The next game for the Bobcats will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Penn State Harrisburg. The game scheduled against Penn State Altoona on Monday, Feb. 4 has been cancelled.
