This Week in Frostburg Sports

Women’s Basketball:

The women’s basketball team traveled to University of Mary Washington for the first round of the CAC tournament. The game concluded the Bobcats’ season with a final score of 54-56, in favor of the Eagles. At one point during the game, there was a 15-point deficit, but the Bobcats came back and later fell in overtime. Points were scored by senior Megan Kelly, juniors Amanda Emory and Victoria Diggs, and sophomore Jada Holland. Upon the conclusion of their season, the Bobcats finished 15-10 overall, going 7-7 in conference play, their first winning season in almost 10 years.

Diggs and Emory earned All-CAC First Team and All-CAC Second Team honors respectively for their efforts during season.

Men’s Basketball:

Similar to the women, the men fell in overtime during the first round of the CAC tournament, concluding their season as well. The men fell to Salisbury 76-78 on Tuesday. Points were scored by senior Edwin Cole and juniors Daniel Alexander, Jordan Dawson, and Terry Kenner. The Bobcats finished their season 10-16 overall and 6-8 in conference play.

Alexander and Cole earned earned All-CAC First Team and All-CAC Second Team honors respectively for their efforts during season.

Baseball:

Frostburg continued their winning streak with a late rally over New Rochelle this past Friday, Feb. 22nd with the score 17-13. Junior Nathan Engle earned the win on the mound. Junior Mitch Fyffe ended the game 3-6 at bat with two RBI’s. Sophomores Tre D’Amico, Bret Fogle, and senior Nick Fuhrmann each drove in 2 runs for the win.

The baseball team dominated the Blue Angels in both games winning by scores of  19-4 and 18-4 respectively. In game one, D’Amico went 3-4 at bat and finished with three RBI’s and three runs of his own. Fyffe went 3-3 at the plate and had three RBI’s. Junior Caleb Smith allowed only four runs for the win as the Bobcats’ bats handled the offensive side of the game. In game two, D’Amico batted in four and went 3-4. Junior Ryan Roell finished with four RBI’s and was 2-4 at the plate. Fuhrmann was 4-4 at bat, scored four runs and drove in two. Junior pitcher Mike Livingston earned the win as he struck out three batters and threw for four innings.

The Bobcats will take on RIT March 1st in Farmville, Virginia.

Men’s & Women’s Track:

Four track athletes traveled to the Armory Last Chance meet in New York, New York over the weekend. Junior John Kerns finished second in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put. Senior Holly Van Wie finished 14th in the shot put. Senior Robbie Romano finished third in the mile. Senior Shamar Nelson placed 13th in the long jump.

Women’s Lacrosse:

The women’s lacrosse team had their home opener against Randolph Macon College on Saturday. The Bobcats fell to the Yellow Jackets 17-2. Goals were scored by senior Morgan Cavey and sophomore Stephanie King. Senior goalkeeper Abby McClure made 5 saves for the Bobcats. The Bobcats play again on Wednesday at they travel to Bridgewater College for a non-conference match up.

Men’s Lacrosse: 

The men’s lacrosse team opens their season next Wednesday, Feb. 27th as they travel to take on Lebanon Valley. The game has a 4 pm start.
