This Week in Frostburg Sports
Men’s Lacrosse
The men’s lacrosse team won both of their contests this past week, beating Eastern 13-12 on Tuesday, March 5 and SUNY Oneonta 16-7 on Saturday, March 9.
Against Eastern, junior Jimmy Lucas scored the game-winning goal with seconds remaining. Lucas ended the game with three points. Junior goalie Jack Marks earned his second win backed by a career-high of 20 saves.
First-year Matthew Ward scored six goals and dished out two assists to lead the Bobcats past SUNY Oneonta. Marks finished with 12 saves.
The Bobcats next game is Tuesday, March 12 against Shenandoah. The game will be played at Bobcat Stadium and starts at 3 p.m.
Women’s Lacrosse
The women’s lacrosse team lost 19-4 this past Saturday, March 9 at McDaniel. The Green Terror scored eight of the game’s first nine goals. Junior attack Molly Biggers scored two of the Bobcats four goals. First-year attack Shelby Brunett scored one goal, and senior attack Morgan Cavey scored the fourth Bobcat goal. Senior goalie Abby McClure posted seven saves, while first-year goalie Sophia Douglas had five.
Baseball
Frostburg continued it’s undefeated season as they swept their doubleheader against Eastern on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 10-9 and 5-3.
In game one, sophomore infielder Jared Mouton took a walk that brought in the game winning from sophomore outfielder Tre D’amico in the last inning. Junior infielder Jesse Hodge went two for five at the plate with two RBI’s and one run scored. Mouton had four RBI’s. Junior pitcher Mike Livingston earned the win on the mound.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Colby Lee allowed one run on six hits and struck out nine to earn his second win of the year.
The Bobcats next game is scheduled for next Wednesday, March 13 against Gallaudet at 3 p.m.
Softball
The Bobcats won both of their games this weekend, defeating Rhode Island College 13-5 and Galladuet 9-5.
Against Rhode Island College, six of Frostburg’s nine batters finished with two RBI’s and six batters finished with two or more hits. Junior Katelyn Merhling earned the win in the circle.
The Bobcats next trailed against the Bison of Galladuet. Senior infielder Olivia Ford finished the game with two hits and three runs. First-year third baseman Amber Keene scored two runs and drove in a third. Sophomore pitcher Taylor McCarty earned the victory on the mound.
The softball team plays next weekend when they travel to Myrtle Beach for a spring break trip.
