Men’s Tennis:

The men’s tennis team lost to #13 University of Mary Washington with a final score of 9-0 on Sunday, March 24. The Bobcats’ record moves to 4-3, while the Eagles improved to 12-3.

The women’s tennis team lost 9-0 to University of Mary Washington. The Bobcats drop to 5-3 for the season, while the Eagles improve to 11-2.

On Friday, March 29, the team fell to Division II West Virginia Wesleyan, 9-0. Senior Jenna Lipinski finished with the closest score of the day with a 7-5 and 6-4 loss in the number one singles.

Baseball:

The baseball team split a double-header with York College on Saturday, March 30th.

The Bobcats defeated the Spartans in game one by a score of 9-3. Senior Nick Fuhrmann opened the scoring with a 2-run homer in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats blew open the scoring in the fifth inning with five runs. Fuhrmann and junior Ryan Roell finished with three hits, and Fuhrmann had two RBI’s and three runs. Sophomore pitcher Colby Lee allowed one earned run on three hits and moves to 3-1 on the season.

The Spartans took game two by a score of 11-5. York took a 3-0 lead going into the fourth when Fuhrmann scored to get the Bobcats on the board. In the fifth, sophomore Brett Fogle crushed a home run to left center cutting York’s lead. The Bobcats would then tie the game in the fifth off a sophomore Josh Clegg homer. York took the lead for good, scoring eight runs in the final two innings. Fuhrmann finished the game going 3 for 4 with one run scored while Clegg was also 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Softball:

The softball team split two non-conference games with Dickinson on Tuesday, March 26. The Bobcats won game one by a score of 3-1, scoring two runs in the top of eighth inning. Sophomore outfielder Claire Hanlon singled home senior infielder Olivia Ford for the go-ahead run. Sophomore infielder Taylor McCarty brought Hanlon home with a sacrifice fly giving the Bobcats their third run. Sophomore pitcher Emily Moll earned the victory in the circle as she only allowed four hits and had one strikeout.

The Bobcats fell 1-0 in game two as Dickinson scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning on an error in the Bobcat’s infield. Frostburg out hit Dickinson 5-3 but couldn’t score any runs. Junior starter Katelyn Mehrling pitched all six innings and allowed one run with three strikeouts.

Men’s Lacrosse:

The men’s lacrosse team lost to Elizabethtown College on Tuesday, March 26 14-10. This moves the Bobcats’ record to 7-2 for the season. First-year Matthew Ward led the Bobcats with 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist). Junior Paul Ruppert had two goals and one assist, senior Jake Howarth had one goal and one assist, and sophomore Jason Clinton had two goals. Juniors Sam Natvig, Jimmy Lucas, and Jack Marks all had high statistics in the loss. Natvig won 10 faceoffs, Lucas had a team-high of 5 grounds balls, and Marks made 12 saves. 

Women’s Lacrosse:

The women’s lacrosse team earned their second win of the season on Wednesday evening against Washington and Jefferson University. Leading goal scorers in the win were junior Molly Biggers with five goals and sophomore Stephanie King with four goals. Additional goals were scored by senior Morgan Cavey (3), sophomore Maggie Roszko (2), sophomore Lindsay Kohlmann (2), and first-year Shleby Brunett (1). In the midfield, Biggers earned 4 draw controls and sophomore Summer Cavey earned 8, making her one draw control away from 100 career draw controls. King and M. Cavey scooped up 2 ground balls and senior goalkeeper Abby McClure picked up 1. McClure allowed 5 goals, while making 10 saves, ending with a 66% save percentage.

The team fell on Saturday, March 30th to Misericordia University by a score of 22-11. Sophomore Stephanie King led the Bobcats with 6 goals. Misericordia went into intermission leading 10-5. The Bobcats were able to cut the deficit to 18-10 on goals from S. Cavey, King, and Kohlmann before MU would add two more to shut down FSU’s comeback.

Track and Field 

Both the men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, March 30th.

The women’s track and field team took home five top-ten finishes. Junior Gabbriell Reason took eighth in the 100-meter dash. Senior Holly Van Wie placed sixth in the hammer throw. Junior Keileen Estrada ran to a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Maddison Watson placed ninth and tenth in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash respectively.

On the men’s side, senior Robbie Romano took home the gold in the 1,500-meter run and senior Shamar Nelson finished first in the long jump. First-year Ratez McLaurin and junior Kavon Adams took home fifth and sixth in the long jump. McLaurin finished second in the triple jump. First-year Justin Dunklin took sixth in the high jump. Sophomore Clayton Washington placed fifth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Dajon Wiseman placed ninth in the 100-meter dash. Senior Matthew Robinson placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles while teammate sophomore James Schwab placed fifteenth. The relay team of Wiseman, Schwab, Washington and first-year Demetrius Sims ran to a third place finish in the 4×100 meter relay. The second team of Washington, Robinson, Sims and junior Tyriek Charles finished fourth in the same event. Junior John Kerms earned third place in the hammer throw, fifth in shot put, and eleventh in discus. Junior Micheal Blecher threw discus and placed fifth. Junior James Naill took eighth in the javelin throw.
