Tori Diggs Scores 1,000 Points as Women’s Basketball Tops York
The Frostburg women’s basketball team beat York College for the first time since 2015 on Thursday night. Junior Tori Diggs scored her 1,000th point in the 56-44 win.
This victory pushes the Bobcats to a 15-8 record overall and 7-6 in conference play. The Bobcats are now tied for third-place with CAC rival, Salisbury University. The Bobcats will host Salisbury on Saturday, Feb. 16 for the regular-season finale and Senior Night for Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla and Megan Kelly. Aside from Diggs, additional point scorers in the York game were Amanda Emory (25), Megan Kelly (12), and Victoria Yoder (6).
In her third season on the team, Diggs became the 19th player in the history of the women’s basketball program to reach 1,000 points.
“Before Frostburg, I’ve played basketball since I was about six years old. I’ve played for the MYBA Wildcats, DC Heat, and the Maryland Grizzlies. I went to Oakland Mills High School in Columbia, Md. and played varsity all four years there,” Diggs said.
After playing basketball for the majority of her life, Diggs commented, “Basketball has influenced my life in so many ways. It has given me the competitive drive that I have now in almost everything that I do. Not only that, but I love it so much that it has encouraged me to become a Health/PE teacher to hopefully teach kids and encourage them to enjoy sports.”
Tori’s favorite part about being a student-athlete at Frostburg is learning how to manage her time. “I spend every day interning in schools, and learning how to juggle everything from practice, to homework, and games has been hard, but it has helped me grow as an adult.”
Her favorite part about the 2018-2019 basketball season was the Halloween parade, noting, “It was awesome to give back to the community and be apart of something like that!”
“If I didn’t play basketball, I think I would go pro in badminton,” Diggs mentioned.
