Track and Field Coming Out of the Gates Strong

The track and field indoor season started off at the 2014 Yale Season Opener on December 6. Many talented student athletes came to this meet with hopes of starting their season off with a bang and the Frostburg State (FSU) athletes impressively proved they were more than ready.

West Virginia University (WVU) opened up their home to many schools at the Yale Coxe Cage- New Haven, CT meet. Although this meet was a scrimmage before the season’s official first meet on January 18, FSU athletes did an amazing job placing first in final heats in multiple events. With the guidance of three amazing coaches: head Coach Lewie, Coach Graves, Coach Kendell, these athletes were prepared to compete against Division 1 and Division 2 athletes.

Frostburg State men’s 4×4 exceeded expectation with an astounding time of 3:37.33. With first leg Elhoussine Hakimi handing the baton off to Ibrahima Barry, Barry then gave it to Devin Francillon and bringing in the home stretch was Kory Leech. Along with the men’s relay team, other individual first place winners proved their point in the final heats of events like the men’s 60m. final, 400m. dash, 800m. run, and mile run.

The women’s team had a great opening season meet as well. With Kayla Truesdal (FR) running an amazing time of 26.93 in the women’s 200m. dash and Erin Early (FR) taking the win for the women’s 60m. hurdles. Opening this indoor track and field season with such a successful meet, there is no doubt these athletes will have an amazing year.

There is no question the team has done an amazing job so far due to their hard work and training. These intercollegiate athletes practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00-4:45 and also Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30-7:45. Finishing the week off with a Saturday meet, these athletes work long and hard to be the best that they can be. Along with their training on campus these FSU athletes will train on their own over the winter break and come back January 14 to finish preparing for the meet on January 17.

Unsure of what the future holds for the Frostburg State University indoor track and field team, these athletes will continue to work hard making not only their school and coaches, proud but also themselves. Preparing for the WVU invitational on January 18 at 9am, these FSU athletes will be ready and will soon be a team to reckon with.
