University Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Makes Call for Proposals

The members of the University Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are soliciting proposals for the development of a Multicultural Center in the former Lincoln School building located on University Drive. The building was once the home of the University Police and will house the Frostburg City Police Department for up to a year, starting in the Spring 2020 semester.

The mission of the Center is to create a location where members of the campus community can share and embrace one another despite differences in gender, race, age, language, sexual orientation, faiths, and intellectual and physical abilities.

Proposals are being accepted through Dec. 17, 2019 and should include a proposed name, mission statement, and anticipated outcomes among other requirements. Ms. Robin Wynder and Dr. Jennifer Earles are co-chairs of the committee receiving proposals.

After the committee vets proposals, they will be submitted to the President and Executive Council who will make the final decision. It will go out for construction bids thereafter prior to the work being completed on the 2,500 square foot space. The completed Multicultural Center may reflect multiple proposals. Funding for the project will come from strategic plan initiatives, reports Ms. Wynder.

Students and faculty, while excited about this venture, should realize that “it’s not a quick process” and the final result is “more than likely a couple of years out,” says Wynder.

For more information or to submit proposals, reach out to Dr. Earles and Ms. Wynder at UCDEI@frostburg.edu.
