Volleyball Rolls Past Lincoln University in Victory
The Frostburg State University volleyball team competed in their season opener against Lincoln University on Friday, Sept. 6th. The Bobcats, who are coming off of a challenging season with a record of 11 wins and a staggering 23 losses, are looking forward to bouncing back this season. They welcome eight recruits whom they hope will give them a renewed spark.
Senior middle-hitter Biamba Tshitenge talked about what Coach Fletcher has tried to instill in her and her teammates, stating, “coach tries to make sure that we work hard in practice but also makes sure that she creates a fun environment. This year our focus was on to never underestimate, but to prepare against each team as if they were a championship-caliber.”
The Bobcats and Lions of Lincoln University began the first set neck and neck until the Bobcats took control midway through the set with a dominant 7-0 run that put the scoreboard at 16-7. The Bobcats would win the first set 25 to 16 with Edwyna Lainez closing Lincoln out with a ferocious spike. Frostburg seemed to get stronger as the game went along and dominated the Lions by a combined score of 50-24 over the second and third sets.
The Bobcats put on an impressive performance with their teamwork and hustle while maintaining a fun atmosphere. The crowd was full of energy and cheered on their volleyball team with Bobcat pride. Notable performances included freshman Jacqueline Sterenberg having 11 kills, senior Bailey Godlove with 6 kills and 3 aces, and senior Biamba Tshitenge with 5 kills, 2 Aces, and 1 block.
Frostburg takes on Lincoln University again on Tuesday, Sept. 10th at 6:00 PM.
