Volleyball Triumphs 4-0 in FSU Tournament

Frostburg State won 3-0 on the final day of the 2014 Frostburg State Tournament to take the tournament title after going 4-0 over the weekend. The Bobcats defeated Waynesburg to open the day before taking down Eastern Mennonite in straight sets to close out the tournament.

The Bobcats cruised to a 3-0 win over Waynesburg in the day’s opening match. Frostburg and Waynesburg battled in the first set before the Bobcats pulled away for a 25-18 victory. Frostburg rolled to a 25-13 and 25-9 victory in the final two sets of the match.

Frostburg’s offense was led by the dynamic duo of junior, Aimee Petrides and freshman, Amanda Snowden, who accounted for 23 of the team’s 42 kills. Petrides led all players with 13 while Snowden hit .409 for the match with 10 kills.

The Bobcats held a 16-7 lead in the final set before freshman Madelyn Torres went on a service tear with five-straight aces to give FSU a 21-7 lead. Petrides and Snowden finished out the match with their final three kills.

Torres handed out 28 assists, while freshman Lindsey Scepura chipped in 18 digs to round out the box score.

Frostburg controlled the match from the first set against Eastern Mennonite, easily winning 25-12 to open the set. The Bobcats took the second and third sets 25-17 to close out the match.

Once again, Petrides was the driving force on offense for Frostburg with a match-high 16 kills. Freshman Naya Cheatem teamed up with Petrides as the main threats on offense chipping in 11 kills as she hit .588 for the match. Petrides finished the day with 29 kills.

Torres was kept busy handing out 37 assists against EMU and Scepura was the Bobcats’ leader in digs once again with 13.

The Bobcats improved to 7-5 on the season with the four wins on the weekend.

Since then, Bobcats have improved their record to 8-6 with a win over Penn State Altoona and a loss to Saint Vincent.

Frostburg State returns to action on October 1, 2014 at 7:00 PM to host Marymount at Bobcat arena.
