Women’s Lacrosse Scores 16 in Dominating Win

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, the Frostburg State University (FSU) Women’s Lacrosse team faced the Saint Vincent College Bearcats at Saint Vincent’s  stadium. The win brought the team to 3-8 on the season.

Within the first 20 seconds of the game, sophomore Stephanie King scored the first goal of the game to put the Bobcats up 1-o, with many more goals to come. The offense took advantage of Saint Vincent’s defense. In the next 31 seconds, sophomores Summer Cavey and Lindsay Kohlmann would both find the back of the net to put the Bobcats up 3-0. Frostburg put up five more goals, with a pair coming from senior Morgan Cavey and first-year Bridget Weiss, to run away with an 8-0 lead. It was Weiss’s first collegiate goal. Saint Vincent did not score their first goal until 17 minutes into the first half. The Bobcats went into intermission leading the Bears 9-1. The Bobcats created 14 turn overs and collected 14 ground balls in the first-half and were able to capitalize on St. Vincent’s mistakes.

The second half was more of the same as the first. The Bobcats continued to dominate the scoreboard by putting up 16 goals in total.  First-year Chloee Johnson scored her first three collegiate goals, junior Molly Biggers put up two goals, sophomore Maggie Roszko scored one, and Weiss added another. First-year Kelly Claxton handed out her first two assists as a Bobcat. The defense was solid as they held Saint Vincent to two goals for the entire game.

The Bobcats dominated in every facet of the game. Six Bobcats added 2 points, but Johnson had 3 goals with 1 ground ball, and M. Cavey had 2 goals with 1 assist leading the Bobcats with 3 points apiece. Senior Abigail McClure earned the win in goal, stopping 14 shots.
