Women’s Basketball Falls to Grove City Ending an Improved Season

This past Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Frostburg Bobcats (15-11) women’s basketball team played at home against the fourth seed Grove City Wolverines (17-10) in a well fought first round game of the ECAC tournament.

The Bobcats came in after losing last week’s CAC Tournament game against Mary Washington, looking to rebound and win this game. The Grove City Wolverines came in after losing against Washington & Jefferson.

Both teams came in playing hard, with the Wolverines playing some good defense, stopping the Bobcats from scoring and having them shooting 33% in the first half.

Coming out of intermission, the Wolverines were looking good offensively, having the game up 14 at the end of the third, but the Bobcats weren’t giving up. Coming into the fourth, the Bobcats’ defense was looking strong, making the Wolverines miss layups and causing turnovers and missed shots.  The offense for the Bobcats looked great too, with a nice jump shot by sophomore Grace Butera and an assist by junior Victoria Diggs, tying the game at 56-56. But the Wolverines came back and played good defense to end the game with a score of 65-58, ending the Bobcats’ season.

Diggs ended the game with 21 points, shooting a good 75% scoring and shooting 71% at the three. Junior Amanda Emory ended the game with 13 points and 8 rebounds.

The Bobcats ended the season with their first winning season since the 2009-10 season.
