Women’s Basketball Getting Hot
Seeing more success than the men’s basketball team, the lady Bobcats have been in the win a few more times. While the team’s performance has been streaky this season, the lady Bobcats are poised to finish strong. Consecutive wins against Wesley and Penn State-Harrisburg could build a foundation for the lady Bobcats to have a great finish. In all likelihood, they will surpass their 2012-2013 record.
The lady Bobcats’ success is due in large part to three core players: Elaina Hummel, Ronje James, and Simone Wise. Hummel is capping off her FSU career with another fine season, averaging over 17 points a game, second best in the CAC. Not only is she an excellent scorer, she causes turnovers too. She has made 42 steals, tied for first on the team and seventh in the CAC. She is tied with Jasmine Walker, a junior forward. Hummel has been a phenomenal player in her time at FSU, and hopefully, she will lead a strong finish that can be improved upon next season.
Ronje James, scoring over 15 points a game, has been another key cog in the offense. She has a team leading 98 field goals, and she ranks second in assists with almost three a game. Simone Wise has averaged over 12 points a game and has put together a solid season thus far.
The lady Bobcats will not be able to pull off a winning season in 2013-2014, but a great finish down the stretch will give the team momentum in the 2014. First-year Head Coach Cathy Parson has done a good job on improving this team, and she will continue to do well next season.
The lady Bobcats will travel to Southern Virginia University for a 6 p.m. game on Feb. 12. After that, they travel to Marymount on Feb. 15 for their 6 p.m. game. They will close this season with three consecutive home games. They will host Penn State Altoona at 6 p.m. on Feb. 17th and York (PA) at 6 p.m. on Feb. 19. They will play their final home game and season finale against the Salisbury Sea Gulls at 1 p.m. on Feb. 22.
