Women’s Lacrosse Drop Season Opener

On Saturday Feb. 23, the Frostburg State women’s lacrosse team opened their season at Bobcat Stadium against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (RMC). RMC’s Rachael Jones found the back of the net within the first 34 seconds.

Randolph- Macon controlled most of the first half, as they scored the game’s first six goals within the first 15 minutes of action. The Yellow Jackets scored four goals before senior attack Morgan Cavey took the first shot of the season for the Bobcats. The Bobcats had 7 shots on goal in the first half compared to RMC’s 24 shots. Senior goalie Abby McClure saved 5 of the 17 shots on goal in the first half of the game. The Yellow Jackets led the Bobcats 12-0 going into the half.

The Bobcats came out strong to start the second half. In the first four minutes of the half, Cavey scored the first goal of the season for Frostburg. Within the next 12 seconds, sophomore attack Stephanie King scored her first goal of season. The Bobcats were still down 13-2. The Bobcats played a better second half, only allowing RMC to have seven shots of which five were on goal. The Yellow Jackets added four more goals in the game’s final 25 minutes and went home with a victory of 17-2.

Cavey led the Bobcats with her one goal, seven shots and three ground balls. King had a goal and three shots. RMC’s Jones had four goals, six shots and an assist to help the Yellow Jackets get their first win of the season. Randolph-Macon outshot FSU 31-16  and won 15 draw controls to Frostburg’s 5.

The Bobcats’ (0-1) next game will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 5 p.m. at Bridgewater.
