Women’s Lacrosse Finishes Season
The Bobcats finished out their regular season by traveling to #11 Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 24. The Bobcats finished their regular season at 4-13, 1-5 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play and secured the sixth seed in the CAC Tournament.
In the first half of action, Mary Washington found the back of the net first, scoring the first four goals of the game within the first six minutes. Frostburg had answers to the goals. Within the next six minutes of the game, three different Bobcats scored. Sophomore Wynnanne Walters scored her first goal of the season to get the Bobcats on the board with 22:16 remaining in the half. Senior Morgan Cavey scored FSU’s second goal from an assist from sophomore Stephanie King. King found the net for the third goal for the Bobcats to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 19:46 left in the first.
Mary Washington scored the next four goals to extend their lead back to five. M. Cavey scored her second goal of the day with 10:09 left in the half. The Eagles scored three more goals, and King ended the first half by getting her second goal of the day. The score was 5-11 Mary Washington at the end of the first half.
To start the second half, Mary Washington scored three goals in the first three minutes. At the 26:16-mark, King got her third goal of the day. She went on to score at the 16:49 mark and then again with 13:11 left in the second. Mary Washington scored seven more goals in the second half.
M. Cavey scored twice in the second half, and Walters also had a goal. The final score was 11-21 in favor of the Eagles. The Bobcats were seeded sixth in the CAC tournament and had to face Mary Washington again.
On Saturday, April 27, the Bobcats played the Eagles, and the game ended the 2019 season for Frostburg with a 4-14 overall record.
Mary Washington opened the game with seven goals before King found the back of the net to get the Bobcats on the board. The Eagles then scored six more before junior Molly Biggers put away a free position shot for the Bobcats. Sophomore Summer Cavey would score two goals in the second half, but the Eagles would run away with the game. The final score was 4-21.
The loss eliminates the Bobcats from the CAC tournament.
