Women’s Lax Score 17 Goals in Win
On Wednesday, March 27, 2019, the Frostburg State Women’s Lacrosse team competed against the Washington and Jefferson Presidents at Bobcat Stadium. The win propelled the Bobcats to 2-7 overall on the season, and they picked up their first win at home.
Within the first four minutes of the game, sophomore midfielder Lindsay Kohlmann found the back of the net to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. The offense took advantage after a free position opportunity as sophomore attacker Stephanie King drilled a shot from short distance making the score 2-0 FSU with 24:04 left on the clock. W&J responded with a goal within the next two minutes to cut the Bobcat lead in half.
50 seconds later, King scored her second goal of the day, making the score 3-1. King again found the back of the net from another free position opportunity extending the FSU lead 4-1. Sophomore attacker Maggie Roszko scored her first goal of the day at the 16:03 mark, and she found that back of the net again with six minutes remaining in the half. King assisted both of Roszko’s goals. The Bobcats led the Presidents 6-1.
The Bobcats scored three more goals before the first half ended. Junior midfielder Molly Biggers and senior attacker Morgan Cavey each scored their first goals of the day and King scored her fourth. The Bobcats lead 9-3 at the half.
Frostburg came out hot in the second half. Within the first two minutes of the half, Biggers scored twice, giving the Bobcats a 11-3 lead. Less than 30 seconds after Biggers scored the 11th goal, Kolhman helped her team get to a 12-3 lead. The Bobcats were not done yet, as Cavey found the back of the net for the second time making the score 13-3.
The Presidents would end up scoring two more goals in the second half. Biggers grabbed two more goals to make the score 15-4. Cavey notched her third goal off an attack in front of the Presidents’ goalie, extending the lead to 12. First-year attacker Shelby Brunett scored on a free position shot, making it 17-5 FSU.
Frostburg beat the Presidents 17-5 and advanced to 2-7 on the season. Biggers had 5 goals and 1 assist, and King had 4 goals and 5 assists. Senior goalkeeper Abigail McClure earned the win, stopping 10 shots.
