Women’s Soccer Drops a 1-0 Loss in Double OT

The Bobcat women’s soccer team dropped a tough loss to Bridgewater College Eagles on Saturday Sept. 9. It took 90 minutes of regular time and 17 minutes of overtime to break the 0-0 draw. Bridgewater’s Catherine Haufe netted the game winning goal in the 107th minute of play.

Bridgewater edged the Bobcats in shots, 17-11. The Bobcats outshot the Eagles in the first half 6-4, but the Eagles outshot the visiting Bobcats 13-5 in the second half. Sophomore Brooke Shehade led in shots with three, while sophomore Gwen Schemm and junior Danielle Ferris both had two apiece.

Sophomore Jesse Dunagan, as well as seniors Alyssa Malanik and Lia Kelly controlled the backline of the Bobcats for the entirety of the match with help from freshman Kaylyn Gardiner and sophomore Rebecca Phillip. Freshman goalkeeper Jenny Bullers registered seven saves on the afternoon.

Frostburg’s best opportunity came in the 79th minute when a corner kick from Schemm found Ferris’s head but was saved off the line by a Bridgewater defender.

The Bobcats return to action next Wednesday, Sept. 13 as they travel to take on NSCAA ranked number 16 McDaniel in non-conference play.
