Women’s Soccer Drops Games Against Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan

On Saturday, Oct. 5th the Bobcats lost 1-0 while on the road against David & Elkins. The Bobcats got scored on from a corner kick in the 17th minute of the game. Frostburg outshot the Senators 16-15. Freshman forward Marley Copes led the team in shots with 4 shots and 3 of them on goal. The Bobcats almost had a goal when senior midfielder Gwen Schemm hit the crossbar off a corner kick in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Vigezzi played the entire match in goal and ended with 7 saves on the night out of the 8 shots on goal.

The Bobcats traveled to Buckhannon, West Virginia to take on West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, Oct. 9th. The Bobcats lost the match by 4 goals. Frostburg was down by only 1 goal at the end of the first half and had outshot Wesleyan 6-4. Wesleyan went into the second half scoring three goals in the 56th, 63rd, and 65th minutes of the game to eventually win the match 4-0. The Bobcat’s fall to a 3-4 record in the conference and a 3-6-1 record overall.

The Bobcat’s play back at Frostburg on Sunday, Oct. 13th as they face Glenville State and travel to play Concord on Thursday, Oct. 17th.

The Women’s Soccer student-athletes are award winners. The 2018-19 team won the college team academic award for the 14th time in the program’s history. This is the 12th year in the row that these athletes had a combined team GPA above a 3.0. Frostburg is one of 349 women’s teams in all NCAA levels to achieve this. They are 1 of 6 schools in the Mountain East Conference and of these 6 teams, Frostburg has the highest GPA.
