Women’s Soccer Goes 1-1 against Wheeling and West Liberty

On Sunday, Sept. 22nd Frostburg women’s soccer competed against Wheeling University at Bobcat Stadium. They won the match by out-scoring the Cardinals 7-0. The goals were scored by five different player. They were by first-year Anna Moyer, sophomore Audra Curtin, senior Brooke Shehade, senior Gwen Schemm, and junior Emily Lehman. The scoring began in the 7th minute of the game and the final goal came at the 56th minute of the game. The Bobcats outshot Wheeling 28-1 with 14 on goal. They had a strong defensive performance and forced a shut-out. Goal keepers evenly shared time defending the goal with sophomore Stephanie Vigezzi in net the first half and first-year Taylor Longworth finishing the game in the second half.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25th women’s soccer traveled to Wheeling, West Virginia to face the West Liberty Hilltoppers. West Liberty outshot the Bobcats 14-10. The Bobcats had 6 on goals while the Hilltoppers had 7 on goal. West Liberty ended the game with a 3-0 victory over the Bobcats. The Bobcats worked hard to score in the second half with shots from Shehade, senior Jesse Dunagan, sophomore Kori Striano, and junior Helen Francis, but came out unsuccessful. In goal was freshman Stephanie Vigezzi having 4 saves playing both halves of the game. The Bobcats now have a record of 2-3-1.

Shehade was recognized by the Mountain East Conference as player of the week. She is leading the conference in shots with 32 with about 6.2 shots per game. She is second in the league in points with 13 and tied for second in goals with 5. She also has 2 assists and looks to score more throughout the season.

The Bobcats next game is against Notre Dame University in Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 29th. Frostburg returns home for a Thursday game against Fairmont State University with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
