Women’s Soccer Lose in MEC Championship
Frostburg State Women’s soccer lost in the Mountain East Conference Championship to Concord. Concord came in first in the south division while the Bobcats came in first in the north division. In the semi finals Concord beat Fairmont State and the Bobcats beat Charleston, however, since Concord had a better overall record, they got to host the championship game. Frostburg then headed to Beckley, West Virginia to compete.
Unfortunately the Bobcats lost due to a handball in the box. The referee called a penalty kick for Concord and Ashley Bilger could not save it. The Bobcats only lost 1-0 due to the penalty kick which took place in the second half.
In the first half the Bobcats came out strong but, a couple minutes into the game Concord took control. They had possession for the most part and kept the ball in the attacking half. Frostburg got a couple good chances but could not find the back of the net.
In the second half, Frostburg picked it up while creating more chances and had more possession. But, just like the first half they could not find the back of the net. Ashley Bilger made 7 great saves as Concord took 19 shots. The Bobcats did not test Concord’s goalie too much, only having 7 shots with 3 being on net.
Overall, the Bobcats had a great winning season. They ended their record with 12 wins, 6 loses, and 2 ties. They can not qualify for the NCAA tournament because they are in their last provisional year. But, the women can hopefully compete and earn a spot next fall.
