Women’s Soccer Secures First D2 Win
On Sunday, Sept. 15th, the Frostburg State women’s soccer team played Eckerd College in St Petersburg, Florida for their last nonconference matchup. After waiting two hours due to a storm from the gulf coast, the match kicked off at 8:00 p.m.
Frostburg went down by 2 goals, with Eckerd scoring in the 11th minute and again at the 25th minute. The Bobcats gained momentum and found the back of the net in the 34th minute of FSU’s only goal was scored by sophomore forward Audra Curtin off a pass from senior forward Brooke Shehade. Curtin was the only Bobcat to have scored in the season so far, scoring Frostburg’s only two goals. The Tritons scored their third goal of the night in the 74th minute, putting them up 3-1. The Bobcats were out-shot 12-6, giving them their second loss of the season. The Bobcats traveled back to Maryland on Monday for a quick turn-around to play again on Wednesday.
The Bobcats took on Urbana University on Wednesday, Sept. 18th for their first Mountain East Conference game, resulting in a 6-2 win at Bobcat Stadium. Frostburg made history with its first-ever NCAA Division II victory.
Curtin continues to lead the Bobcats in scoring, with her next two goals of the season coming in the 9th minute and 62nd minute. Shehade scored her first goal of the season in this match but didn’t leave it at just that. She continued scoring to finish with a hat trick along with 2 assists. Senior midfielder Jesse Dunagan had a goal and an assist. All available players of the team contributed to the victory as all earned time on the field. The team had a total of 30 shots with 18 on goal. The Bobcats move to an overall record of 1-2-1 and a 1-0-0 record in the Mountain East Conference.
They look forward to hosting their next game on Sept. 22nd against Wheeling University at 11 a.m. at Bobcat Stadium. Frostburg then will travel to West Liberty University on Wednesday, Sept. 25th for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
