Bengals vs Chiefs: Close Game

On the 29th of January, 2023, the Bengals and the Chiefs battled for who would be in the Superbowl.

The Bengals were the first to possess the ball, but the Chiefs were the first to score. Patrick Mahomes threw an incomplete endzone pass to Kadarius Toney on 3rd and 5. The play was challenged and upheld. Mahomes made a short pass to Travis Kelce for 13 yards, leading to a successful 43 yard field goal by Harrison Butker putting the Chiefs up by 3.

The Bengals had an opportunity on their second possession, being at the 35 yard line, but there was a delay of game penalty costing them 5 yards, in addition to the sack of their quarterback, Joe Burrow before and after this play.

On their second possession, Mahomes made an impressive pass to Trey Hendrickson in the midst of being brought down on 3rd and goal for 13 yards. However, the Bengals almost got a sack on him here.

Burrow has an incomplete pass on 3rd and 7. The Bengals score a field goal via Evan McPherson from 30 yards away. The score is 3-6.

A beautiful 29 yard catch is made by Chiefs’ Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Mahomes makes a successful pass to Kelce for a touchdown. The score is 13-3.

Next possession, Burrow throws an incomplete pass to Tee Higgins in the End Zone. It wasn’t close to a catch. McPherson makes a field goal from 23 yards away, making the score 6 to 13.

Mahomes throws deep and no one is able to get it. The Bengals get a touchdown to tie it 13-13. Chiefs get a touchdown to make the score 20-20. Valdes-Scantling is wide open, catches the ball, and runs for a fair amount of yards. Valdes-Scantling reaches over for extra yardage, it goes to replay and the call is reversed.

Joe Burrow makes a spectacular deep throw for a touchdown, tying the game 20-20. A beautiful deep ball pops up off of the hands of Bengals’ Higgins and is intercepted by Watson. Mahomes runs and there is an unnecessary roughness from the Bengals for pushing Mahomes once he is out of bounds, costing the Bengals 15 yards. The Chiefs score a field goal from 45 yards away with 3 seconds remaining, winning the game.
