Odell Beckham Jr. Welcome to Baltimore

Arguably the NFL’s best receiver is back and ready to show everyone that packs the stadium more crazy catches. On Monday, April 10th, Odell Beckham Jr. signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the 2023 season.

Beckham’s deal gave him $18 million dollars with $15 million guaranteed. This was a one-year deal, but because this was so high over Beckham’s value, he was quick to take the opportunity to sign with the Ravens.

The last game that Beckham took the field was Super Bowl LVI (56) where he sustained a knee injury. He was able to ride off in glory since the Rams won, giving Beckham a ring to add to his possible hall-of-fame resume. Since missing the entirety of the 2022 season, we have to see if Beckham is the same player he used to be.

The climate of NFL top receivers is vastly different from just five years ago. Where it once was Julio Jones, Odell Beckham Jr., Antonio Brown, and De’Andre Hopkins, it is now Jamarr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Steffon Diggs, and Tyreek Hill. It is possible Beckham will have a chip on his shoulder for the coming season to prove that he is still the same top-tier receiver he has always been.

A big question that could rise out of this transaction is, “Has the bridge between Lamar Jackson and the Ravens irreparable to a point that the Beckham addition does not matter?”. A great knock on the Ravens’ organization has been that they have not surrounded Jackson with the receivers needed for him to be the incredible quarterback they were expecting him to be.

Who Baltimore is expecting to throw to Beckham is a question that will be answered as the draft approaches. Outside of Jackson’s situation, we can’t deny that Baltimore made an effort to improve their offensive receiving weapons.

Depending on how well this signing turns out this season, Beckham could possibly receive an extension to be a Raven for years to come. The Ravens have been a very respectable organization for the past 20 years so fans should be excited to see what is to come for them for the rest of the 2020 decade.
