Bobcat Baseball Drop Two Against Slippery Rock

On Sunday March 14, the Frostburg State University (FSU) Baseball team went on the road to Slippery Rock PA to play a double header against Slippery Rock University (SRU). The Bobcats fell close in both games, one being the typical scoring level of any baseball game, and the other being a high scoring close call for SRU.

Game 1

SRU was first on the board after a single gave a player on third base a chance to run home. FSU retaliated with an impressive home run center field by Caleb Smith. After an answer by Slippery Rock, the Bobcats’ Jack Maruskin tripled, sending Justin Jimenez home and placing Frostburg within one score of tying at the top of the third inning.

After that score by FSU, Slippery Rock was able to score five times to the Bobcats’ one. The score was 8-3 until the top of the seventh where FSU was able to make the score a little more respectable. The final score was 8-5.

Game 2

It looked as though things would be different in this game after the third play of the game which was Bryce Jackson hitting a home run to right field, but all it took was three key innings for SRU to establish dominance. The bottom of the first, the fourth, and the fifth innings were three periods where there was a scoring flood by Slippery Rock. By the top of the sixth inning, the score was 10-1. There was a clear winner by the sixth inning . . . so we all thought. Frostburg scratched and clawed their way back into the game. The comeback attempt started with a Mitch Fyffe double to send Jack Lawrence and Jake Mcnellis home. FSU scored seven more times in the top of the sixth alone. SRU scored again in the bottom of the sixth, but nothing was going to stop the rally of Frostburg. In the top of the seventh, the comeback was complete as Frostburg’s Maruskin scored on a pass ball. Eventually, Slippery Rock was back on offense and took advantage because they scored off a single down center field making the score 12-12. Unfortunately for FSU, on the final play of the game SRU hit a double, scoring one more point before time was over. The final score was 13-12.
