Bobcat Field Hockey Falls To Slippery Rock

Frostburg State field hockey hosted Slippery Rock at Bobcat Stadium on Oct. 8th, 2019. This was the second matchup for these teams. Earlier in the season, the Bobcats fell short to Slippery Rock with a loss of 0-8. In this week’s matchup, the Bobcats closed the gap but still came up short with a loss of 0-3.

Frostburg was able to hold Slippery Rock throughout the first half of the game. It was not until 30 minutes in that Slippery Rock was able to formulate a goal. Jessie Trube was able to find an assist from Emily Polakovsky to put themselves ahead of the Bobcats at the half. Slippery Rock was able to score two more goals in the second half. Polakovsky scored with an assist from Addy Ross. Following at the 49-minute mark,  Courtney Page scored a goal with an assist from Mikaela Hettel. Slippery Rock then held themselves in this steady lead ahead of the Bobcats for the remainder of the game.

Offensively, the Bobcats were greatly outshot. Slippery Rock ended the game with a total of 17 shots on the goal while the Bobcats only accumulated 1 shot on the goal. The Bobcats were able to take their fair amount of shots. Logan Gladden leading the team this game with 2 shots. Taylor Henderson, Morgan Mathews, and Brooke Lafayette also had shots for the Bobcats.

Frostburg senior, Sierra Smizer, was able to earn herself a total of 14 saves for the Bobcats. Smizer has been a force so far this season with 111 saves. She has yet beat her career-high of saves in a game of 18 against Indiana PA.

Frostburg Field Hockey is at a current standing of 0-11 for the 2019 season. Frostburg will be hosting Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday, Oct. 15th.
