Bobcats Basketball in Less Than a Week
T-minus seven days before the launch of the Men’s basketball team’s season. Next week, they plan to kick off the season against Millersville, only this go around will be a lot different from the 2020-2021 season.
Frostburg State University’s (FSU) Men’s basketball coach, Sean Brown, sat with Frostburg’s sports media and shared the difficulties of the previous year, along with how things will be different because of clarity on the this season’s outlook. The conversation started with explanations on how last season was prepared for. “Defensively we really struggled this past year because we weren’t able to put in those [defensive] concepts, and have our guys conditioned the way we wanted them conditioned, and you know chemistry.. it effected our chemistry also.” The record of the team last year was 4-12, but certainly things could’ve been better if there was more than “eight days to prepare for [the] season.”
Student athletes that are returning for this season are Canaan Bartley, Bo Schene, Desmond Rene, Agyei Edwards, Sean Patterson, Sean Brown Jr., Torrin Stephens, Marcellus Carroll, Jaylon Johnson, Jaylin Albury, Juston Bailey, and Jihar Williams. New additions to the team are Tairell Fletcher, Micheal Tate Jr., Dominick Williams, Gavin Kinnie, Caleb O’Banner, Justin Roseme, Kamau Mitchell, and James Briscoe IV. Of this group of returners, coach talked about how Agyei Edwards has emerged as the leader of the team, also mentioning that Canaan Bartley is definitely a leader by example to his teammates.
Finally in the discussion, it was talked about why the scheduling for the season is what it is. This season, the bobcats will start off by playing teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Coach Brown explained that the reasoning behind this is because PSAC is a good conference, and teams in the conference could better prepare Frostburg for teams in their own conference (MEC) that they will face later down the season.
