Bobcats Earn Their First Win Against Wheeling

The Frostburg State University (FSU) Men’s Soccer team hosted the Wheeling University (WU) Cardinals on Sunday, February 28. After the last day of February, one of these teams would have gained their first win of the season and it turned out to be FSU.

It was a rainy day in Frostburg, MD and the FSU Bobcats were able to kick things off thirty minutes into the game. Tamino Brown was one half of the of the game’s scorers. With bodies to his left and right, Brown was able to maneuver out of a tough situation, launching the ball toward the goal for the game’s first score, just barely passing the Wheeling goal keeper’s reach. After time had passed and gone into the second period of the game, it was at eighty-one minutes that their would be a second score, an FSU score at that.

Vaughn Phillips’ score essentially sealed a game that was very slow. The two points that the Bobcats were up by seemed like an insurmountable lead at the rate the game was going and that projection was not far off. The games final score was 2-0.

On Friday March 5, the FSU Bobcats traveled to Athens, WV to take on the Concord University Mountain Lions. In an even more stalled out game than the one against Wheeling, Frostburg unfortunately fell against a Concord team that was desperately searching for their first win after two straight losses.

In the game, nearly thirty minutes went by until the first score by Concord. FSU would try to answer, but a lack of shots being taken in the second period made it easy to believe that FSU wouldn’t be able to recover from the very in range lead. There was also a spike in fouls against the Bobcats that continued to take away their possession, putting the ball in the hands of the Mountain Lions. Concord University won 1-0.

Frostburg will travel once again to Philippi, WV to face Alderson Broaddus. The game will be on Sunday, March 14, at 2 P.M.
