Bobcats Enter OT on Senior Day

Frostburg Bobcats Field Hockey celebrated their return home on Sept. 21th when they recognized their seniors Logan Gladden, Kendall Hamlin, and Sierra Smizer.

For this matchup, the Bobcats went against the Coker College Cobras. Frostburg trailed for the majority of the game. Well into the first quarter, Kelly Mason was able to score a goal with an assist from Amelia Gajewski for the Cobras. FSU responded in the second quarter when junior Gabby Rachuba was able to break away and get one back for the Bobcats with a goal of her own. The teams entered into the half at a 1-1 tie.

Only a minute into the 3rd quarter, Amelia Gajewski, was able to assist again for the Cobras when she and Lisa Rempt were able to get past the keeper, giving the Cobras a 2-1 lead. The Bobcats would trail the Cobras for the remainder of the second half. In the last 10 minutes, freshman Emily Hughes was able to connect with junior Brooke Lafayette to score a goal for the Bobcats and tie up the game. This would be Lafayette’s first assist of the season and Hughes’ first goal of the season. The game would remain at a deadlock for the remaining minutes of the contest.

The teams entered overtime for 10 minutes. Frostburg had many more attempted shots at the goal during the extra period. The Cobras narrowly outshot the Bobcats 17-14. The Cobras were able to connect once again in the 7th minute of OT. Kaleigh Cordrey was assisted by Alyssa Baronella for a goal. The game would end with a hard-fought loss leaving the Bobcats falling to the Cobras 3-2 on Saturday.

Frostburg was able to play a strong offensive and defensive game. Junior Gabby Rachuba had a total of 5 shots for the game. Freshman Taylor Henderson had 4 shots of her own for the Bobcats.

Goalie Sierra Smizer once again played the entire duration of 67 minutes of this game. She was able to save 8 shots for the Bobcats.

Coker currently stands 3-2 overall this season and the Bobcats are still searching for their first win of the season. The Bobcats will play again on Sunday, Sept. 22nd away at Bloomsburg University at 1:00.
