Bobcats Fall to Senators In Close Match
The Frostburg State University (FSU) men’s soccer team traveled to Elkins, West Virginia this past Wednesday where they would take on the sixth ranked Davis and Elkins Senators on a rainy day.
In the opening minutes of the game, the Senators offense was bringing pressure to the Bobcats’ defense. Later on in the first half, around the 20 minute mark, a corner kick attempt by the Bobcats was looking to be a goal until the goalkeeper, Jeremy Coste, saved the kick. This prevented the Bobcats from scoring a goal early in the game. A few minutes later, in the first half, the Senators kept attacking the defensive lines of the Bobcats, leading to the failing of their strategy – allowing a goal by Yavi Ortiz to take place.
Frostburg had lots of opportunities in the first half, more were presented later including a two on one breakaway, which resulted in 0 points as senior Malek Shedid kicked it high over the crossbar. As the second half of the game was about to begin, the rain started to fall harder, making it challenging for both teams to move the ball. Frostburg had another opportunity to tie the game as freshman player Josecarlos Martinez went straight to the Senators goalkeeper, Coste. In a hard fought game between both teams, it would be the Senators who came out of this game victorious with a win of 1-0. Joel Assal, the senior goalkeeper for Frostburg, finished the game with six saves and only one goal allowed to pass.
The Bobcats fell to 3-2-1 on the season as the D & E Senators would improve to 5-0. The FSU Bobcats will return back home this Saturday as they will host Notre Dame (Ohio) at around 2:30 P.M. EST.
