Bobcats Victorious Over Yellow Jackets

On Wednesday February 3, the Frostburg State University (FSU) Men’s Basketball team hosted the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets. This was a long and drawn out battle between both teams and, for FSU, a little longer than they would desire.

The first half started with Frostburg taking the drivers’ seat. Multiple scorers got involved early, and Jihar Williams, Sean Patterson, and Agyei Edwards were three key factors in the lead. Edwards and Williams showed the Yellow Jackets that their three-point shooting should not at all be overlooked, hitting six in the half. A sweet move of the half appeared out of an iso by Canaan Bartley where he crossed, then spun away from the defender into the paint to evade the defender and score the contested layup. With four minutes and nine seconds left in the first half, Jamil Jones hit two free throws to extend the Bobcats to a twenty-five point lead, with the score now at 21-46.

It had once looked very clear that FSU was going to be the winners of this game, but as time waned in the first half WVU never gave up and used every opportunity they had to score points. A few free throw attempts, a made three-pointer, and a final second layup made the score 30-46 with Frostburg still in front sixteen.

Frostburg began to take their foot off of the gas pedal in the second half, and West Virginia State took full advantage. The Yellow Jackets held the Bobcats at fifty-one points for almost five minutes, and put together a rhythm of their own, scoring ten points to the Bobcats’ two. West Virginia State hit a three-pointer to tie the game, and later scored two to take the lead. Frostburg quickly answered making the game a back and forth battle throughout the duration of the final minutes. With the score being 71-73, Patterson closed out the game with his performance in the paint, scoring a dunk and two free throws. The final Score was 71-77.

Frostburg Men’s Basketball have yet to lose a home game so their schedule for their next four games should favor them. Glenville State is FSU’s next opponent, and they will play on Monday, February 8. Tip off at 7:30 P.M.
