Feels Good To Be Back Home

Finally Frostburg baseball is back in Frostburg. Frostburg State University baseball fans were finally able to see there #8/12 national ranked team on display for the first time this 2015 season.

The Bobcats next 9 games are scheduled to take place at home.  In their first 4 games at home the Bobcats wrapped up the home stand with a 3-1 record.

The #8/12 ranked Bobcats are now 20-3 on the season after having another impressive week on the diamond. The Bobcats handed Coach Robertson his 200th career win in the first of two games on Monday against CAC foe St. Mary’s (Md.).  It was nice to see Coach Robertson pick up his 200th career win at home.

Pitching has been the top story of the season, but in their first 2 games back home the Bobcats allowed their bats to do the talking. Frostburg State University simply out matched St. Mary’s (Md.) in both games in the doubleheader (16-2, 13-6). The Bobcats also picked up a 5-1 win against Southern Virginia but the Bobcats failed to cap the week off with a win against Marymount (Va.) (2-1).

Senior Bennett Schiltz improved to 6-0 on the season. Like Schiltz, Senior Clayton Freimuth is also undefeated after grabbing his 5th win. The Bobcats are 13-0 this season when Schiltz or Freimuth takes the mound to start the game. Sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Callahan has two wins so far this season.

Freshman Greg Schneider suffered his first loss on the season in the 2-1 defeat to Marymount (Va.).  The Bobcat’s bats had cooled off after producing 34 runs in the first 3 games. Schneider had a great performance though; he pitched 9 strikeouts in 8 innings and allowed just one earned run on 4 hits.

First baseman Ricky Brady went 7 for 16 on the week and batted in 9 runs for the Bobcats. Brady has been producing runs all season long. He leads the Bobcats in RBIs. He also sits second in the CAC RBI leaders standings. Also to note is that Brady has 34 hits this season and has knocked in 36 runs on those 34 hits.

Junior infielder Connor Cooper had perhaps his best stretch this year going 8 for 17 this week. Catcher Lane Farmer’s multi-hit game streak came to an end at 6 games against Southern Virginia and infielder Zach Weiss 9 game hit streak also came to an end this week against Marymount (Va.).

Next Up: The Bobcats will face Marietta College at home on April 5.
