Field Hockey Drops Game to Lindenwood

The Bobcat field hockey team played Lindenwood on Saturday, Nov, 9th. The Bobcats matched up with the Lions for Independents Championship Weekended at Bellarmine University.  In the two previous games against the Lions, Frostburg has fallen short both times. Lindenwood would come out with another win against the Bobcats on Saturday with a final score of 4-3.

It was a hard-fought battle between the Bobcats and the Lions. Lindenwood opened up the game very early with Megan Marti scoring in the first 15 seconds with an assist from Izzy Folan. Frostburg was able to respond quickly in the first quarter when junior Gabby Rachuba scored at the 13-minute mark. The Bobcats and Lions entered into the half at a score of 1-1.

Lindenwood fought back in the second half starting with a goal from Jessie Londono and an assist from Shelby Pierson. Five minutes later, Pauline Terwindt scored with an assist from Lauren Roberts. With less than 10 minutes left to play, Londono would find the back of the net again for the team’s final goal.

In the final minutes of the game, the Bobcats exploded with 2 goals in under 8 minutes. Senior Logan Gladden linked with the assist from Rachuba to get past the Lindenwood keeper. Gladden was relentless as she scored for the Bobcats again in the final second of playtime. Even though Frostburg put forth the strong effort, they still ended short with a final score of 4-3.

Lindenwood was offensively more aggressive than Frostburg with a total of 15 shots. Frostburg ended the game with only 5 shots. Gladden and Rachuba each had a pair of shots and first-year Emily Hughes also had one shot.

Bobcat senior goalie Sierra Smizer played a competitive game for the Bobcats. Smizer faced 15 shots through the whole game with 1 save.

Frostburg is currently standing with a record of 2-17. They will be playing their final game of the 2019 season on Sunday, Nov. 10th against Bellarmine.
