Frostburg drops to West Virginia State 103-89

The Frostburg Men’s basketball team looked to start a win streak as they will faced off against West Virginia State in an exhibition game.

The Bobcats started off strong on offense as junior Michael Tate Jr scored five straight points to give the bobcats an early 8-3 lead. The Bobcats would continue on the attack and score more points as sophomore Jaylon Johnson knocked down some free throws making it a 12-5 lead. West Virginia began to storm back to make the score 14-13. Frostburg continued in their scoring as graduate Canaan Bartley and senior Sean Patterson gave the Bobcats an 18-13 lead. The game would continue to go back and forth between the teams, each team exchanging buckets. Junior player Agyei Edwards would give the Bobcats a 48-47 lead right before the end of the half.

Starting out in the second half, West Virginia would continue on the attack. Shooting really good gave them a 60-52 lead early on in the second half. Frostburg would try to keep the score close as Bartley would drain some three pointers, giving the bobcats a chance as they trail 65-60. Later on in the second half, West Virginia went on a hot streak. They went on a 29-9 run giving them a 94-69 lead. Sophomore Sean Brown Jr. would knocked down a few three pointers trying to keep the game close, but the bobcats would fall to West Virginia 103-89.

Bartley and Tate Jr led Frostburg in points as they both would score 21 points on the night. Edwards was right behind them with 18 points. Frostburg would drop another game and go 2-6. West Virginia improved to 4-3. Frostburg’s next opponent will be against Charleston on December 4th at 4:00 PM as they look to get back on track in the win column. That game will be live on 99.5 WDZN radio.
