Frostburg Family Weekend Returns

After several years of absence, Frostburg’s family weekend is returning from Friday to Sunday, October first through the third. This event offers many opportunities for students and their families to familiarize themselves with the culture and facilities that Frostburg has to offer, as well as a variety of events for those attending to enjoy.

This weekend kicked off on Friday with dinner for students with their parents at Chesapeake Dining Hall, followed by an outstanding performance by the a cappella group, Revoiced. There were tables set up in the Lane Center with snacks, such as chips and bobcat paw-shaped rice krispie treats, a schedule of events for the weekend, and welcome bags for students and their families to pick up throughout the day. After sunset and the warm start-of-fall-weather cooled, students bundled up in sweaters and blankets to enjoy the showing of the film Cruella on the lawn by the Clock Tower.

On Saturday, Frostburg hosted a breakfast with FSU administration, a carnival by the Clock Tower Quad starting at 11am, where the first 300 people were offered a free Kona Ice. Later, a performance by Dueling Pianos in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall took place before the UPCinemas’ showing of Raya and the Last Dragon began later that night. The Funzone in the Lane University Center’s Atkinson Room was also booming between 9am and 5pm for students and their family’s to play board games, XL Jenga, cards, or Mario Kart on one of the projector screens. Tailgating in the Bobcat Stadium Lot starts at 10:30am and runs till 1pm with each space costing $20.

Frostburg’s Natural History Museum, Children’s Literature Center, the Lewis J. Ort Library, and the planetarium was also open on Saturday. Additionally, Garrett County Animal Shelter was present at the event in order to open a discussion surrounding animals and mental health. Students and their families can anticipate a weekend of events to bring them closer to the Frostburg community in the final days of the celebration.
